How do your parents find out that you are their child's teacher? Over the years I have met my new parents and students different ways. I have called parents and then said hello to the children.  I have written students letters and included a picture of myself.  I have had traditional Meet the Teacher nights.  I have also done Welcome Walks in which I drove to student's houses and introduced myself.

I will never forget one particular stop on a Welcome Walk.  I knocked on the door and the cutest little curly haired boy answered.  I said, "Hi, I am Mrs. Litton, your new kindergarten teacher."  He shouted, "Wait, wait, just let me go get my new shoes."  Then he ran upstairs.  I looked at his mom and she said, "He has been waiting for you all week.  He thinks he is going home with you now."  When he came downstairs, I explained that I had to go meet the other friends who would be in our class and that I would see him the next day at Supply Drop off.  That satisfied him, thank goodness.

How do you meet your new students and parents?  If you have any funny or interesting stories please comment below.
